Rethymnon landmarks near the property
Our property is close to fine-dining restaurants, traditional taverns, shops and the “Blue Flag” awarded Rethymnon beach. It’s also within easy walking distance of the renowned Fortezza Castle, the Venetian harbor and the lively streets of the scenic Old Town of Rethymnon that contains all the life, history and traditions of Crete.
Walk around the Fortezza Fortress and other Venetian monuments. Visit remarkable churches dating back to the Byzantine years and stand out for their history and their rich interior decoration. Please your eyes and mind with images and colors of past times.
A harbor constructed by Venetians in the 13th century. The small Venetian jetty managed to face the raging waves of the Cretan Sea with dignity and come out unscathed from the difficult battle. Today, there is a much larger jetty and a new port, from where passenger ships leave from Rethymnon for Piraeus and Santorini.
A 13th century fountain decorated with three lion heads that still spill water into their basins. The inscriptions ‘LIBERALITATIS’ and ‘FONTES’ invite the population to drink freely from the fountain.
The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymnon is housed in a 17th century Venetian mansion. It contains a remarkable collection of traditional handicraft and folk art. It also serves as a research centre for the preservation of Cretan Folklore culture.
Rethymnon is famous for the good food and the vivid nightlife. Small bars, cafes and shops are housed in old renovated buildings, keeping an unaltered traditional character. From early morning sophisticated cafeterias to late night cocktail bars, there are plenty of options to satisfy all tastes and moods. As for the dining options, taverns with local dishes and upscale restaurants with fine-dining cuisine are just a few steps away.
For you who choose Rethymnon as your summer destination, the city has a variety of beaches that meet even the highest expectations. Crystal clear waters and spectacular landscapes are among the characteristic features. From north to south and from west to east, the island offers hundreds of choices for the swim-lovers and as Rethymnon lies in the center of the island, the opportunity to explore Crete is a “dream come true”.
Spreading to the north side of the city, the central beach of Rethymnon is a well organized beach with services such as umbrellas, lifeguards, beach bars, showers, water sports, etc. It is a “Blue Flag” awarded beach with golden sand and clear shallow waters. Its length and its close proximity to the city centre make this beach one of the most popular options among holidaymakers. Be lucky enough and you may see a Caretta-Caretta sea turtle as Rethymnon Gulf is one of the three most important places for the famous sea turtle in Greece with more than 400 nests every year.
There is a spot, unknown to most of us, where locals love to swim. Just a few meters from the property, you can find the access to the pebbled beach of “Hochlada”. Not an organized beach, just an alternative place to have a quick dive.
