Designed in a stylish and elegant note, the property consists of 5 inspired suites that offer a sophisticated living opportunity to all guests. In a building of refined architecture that blends the post-modern Venetian character of the area with contemporary aesthetic elements, the history of the town is emphasized and re-introduced. 02. Story
Porta Squero, a name dedicated to the cultural heritage of Rethymnon
Wandering around the charming and picturesque town of Rethymnon, the visitor is impressed by its special physiognomy. The Venetian monuments, the old well-preserved mansions, the old neighborhoods, all reveal the rich history of and the heavy heritage as Rethymnon combines tradition with evolution. It is a city with historic character and identity.
The old town in Rethymnon (Palia Poli) is one of the most well-preserved Renaissance towns. It is the core of today’s city and is surrounded by the walls of the Fortezza from the east and west side. When constructed, the wall had three bastions and three gates (Sabbionara, Guora and Squero).
Gate Squerο, has no remains left. It was situated at the west area, very close to where the property is now. The word “squero”, also known as “squadro”, means “the small shipyard” and reveals the presence of a shipyard. Our neighborhood was “Terra de squero” and was historically the place where ships were built, even boats or gondolas.

The sunset terrace is one of the most famous instagrammable spots in Rethymnon. It’s the spot where idyllic sunsets with ethereal spread of colors that bursts in the sky allow you to dream.
